In a context where some individuals are allergic to pain killers/anesthetics and still would have to undergo surgical procedures to get rid of their medical problems, there has been a growing acceptance on the part of medical fraternity, whether it is physicians or surgeons, to use hypnosis as an alternative for a number of procedures (e.g. childbirth, removal of stones in the kidney) which otherwise involve surgical procedures.
